The Priest's Boot

The very best of Judas Priest bootlegs.

Audio & Lossy Video Downloads

The downloads are listed chronologically by the date of the show in question, the newest ones are on the top and the oldest ones at the bottom.

Some of the downloads are hosted on MediaFire which allows you to download limitlessly without having to wait for a certain period time, unlike most other services. However, due to MediaFire effectively ending the long-term sharing of split archives, all shows that are over 200MB (most of the FLACs and a few longer MP3 ones) have been moved to Mega, which also doesn't have any limits at the moment. Some have also been moved to FileFactory due to my Mega account bursting from its seams...

Please use the feedback form to report any broken links and I'll fix them as soon as I get notified of them.

The cover art included within the files is usually not resized to correct printing dimensions (other than the aspect ratio), so if you want to print them, you'll have to have some sort of an advanced editing program so that you can fiddle around with the print size and DPI.

Here's a bootleg from the third show of the Epitaph tour, performed in the Sauna Open Air Metal Festival in Tampere, Finland. American Idol 2011

This is Judas Priest's performance at the American Idol on 25th May 2011, performing two songs with James Durbin (who had previously sang Priest on the show). It's notable because of two things; first, this performance put Priest in front of tens of millions of TV viewers, and secondly it was the band's first performance with Richie Faulkner.

Track listing:
  1. Living After Midnight/Breaking the Law (medley with James Durbin)
Venue and date: American Idol 2011 finals, Nokia Theatre, Los Angeles, USA, 25th May 2011

Audio source and quality: TV recording, perfect quality. Nothing to complain about.

Special features: Richie Faulkner's first gig with the band.

Breaking the Midnight: Chiba, Japan 2009

This bootleg is notable for being the last show where KK Downing played with Judas Priest before he retired from the band in April 2011. This is from the last gig of the British Steel 30th Anniversary tour, and the setlist is identical to the official DVD and CD from the same tour. However, the fact that this is so far KK's last gig with Priest makes it special.

Track listing:

  1. Rapid Fire
  2. Metal Gods
  3. Breaking the Law
  4. Grinder
  5. United
  6. You Don't Have to Be Old to Be Wise
  7. Living After Midnight

  16. You've Got Another Thing Comin'

Venue and date: Makuhari Messe, Loud Park Festival, Chiba, Japan, 17th October 2009

Audio source and quality: Audience, very good quality. The sound lacks a little bit depth and someone really enjoyed himself near the microphone, so there's a fair amount of crowd noise as well.

End of an Era: Toronto, Canada 1991

This show is historical in two ways; first, it was the last show the band played for almost seven years, and the last Judas Priest show with Rob Halford until the 2004 Reunion Tour. New Haven, USA 1988

An excellent-sounding broadcast bootleg from the 1988 Mercenaries of Metal tour. As far as I know this is the only pro recording from this era. Includes rare live versions of songs from Ram It Down. Unlike most versions of this, this one has the tracks cut at correct places and a restored setlist (the original broadcast version had the four last songs shuffled), both done by me.

Track listing:
  1. The Hellion/Electric Eye
  2. Metal Gods
  3. Sinner
  4. Breaking the Law
  5. Come and Get It
  6. I'm a Rocker
  7. Beyond the Realms of Death
  8. Some Heads Are Gonna Roll
  9. Turbo Lover
  10. Ram It Down

Here's another great show from the early 1988 tour. Not only does it include a live version of Johnny B. Goode, the FLAC version comes from a first-generation tape so the quality is almost perfect!

  1. The Hellion/Electric Eye
  2. Metal Gods
  3. Sinner
  4. Breaking the Law
  5. Come and Get It
  6. I'm a Rocker

  9. Beyond the Realms of Death
  10. Some Heads Are Gonna Roll
  11. Ram It Down
  12. Heavy Metal

  14. The Green Manalishi

  16. Johnny B. Goode
  17. You've Got Another Thing Comin'
  18. Hell Bent for Leather
Venue and date: KB Hallen, Copenhagen, Denmark, 10th May 1988

Audio source and quality: Audience, very good to excellent quality. The MP3 version evidently comes from a higher-gen source and has more distortion and muffledness than the FLAC one. The FLAC version also patches a cut in BTROD.

Special features: Live version of Johnny B. Goode.

Artwork: Self made front and back covers included.

Ram It Down Rare Cuts

Here's three rare studio cuts from the Ram It Down album.

First one up is an extra-long remix of Blood Red Skies, supposedly originating from the Scandinavian radio in around 1988. It adds nothing new to the song, but instead it repeats certain structures so that the total time is almost three minutes longer than in the original version. It's never been officially released, but now you have the chance to hear it. MP3 192 kbps.

The second one is the radio edit of Blood Red Skies which is about three and a half minutes shorter than the album version. It was released as a limited promo CD back in 1988, probably in hopes of increasing the album's sales with radio play of this song. MP3 VBR

The third one is the single version of Heavy Metal, most likely from the b-side of the Ram It Down 7" single released in some European countries in 1988. It's not much different from the album version apart from being slightly shorter, but makes for a good and rare addition to any Priest fan's collection! Credit to "Fred E Coyote", MP3 256 kbps.

Run for Cover: Essen, Germany 1986

This is a good bootleg from the Fuel for the Life tour, and it was the best I had from this tour until I got my hands on one of the King Biscuit broadcasts. It's an audience recording, but the quality is superior to most other recordings of that type.

Track listing:

  1. Out in the Cold
  2. Locked In
  3. Heading Out to the Highway
  4. Metal Gods
  5. Breaking the Law
  6. Love Bites
  7. Some Heads Are Gonna Roll
  8. The Sentinel
  9. Private Property
  10. Rock You All Around The World
  11. The Hellion/Electric Eye
  12. Turbo Lover
  13. Parental Guidance
  14. Freewheel Burning
  15. Victim of Changes
  16. The Green Manalishi
  17. Living After Midnight
  18. You´ve Got Another Thing Comin'
  19. Hell Bent for Leather

Venue and date: Grugahalle, Essen, West Germany, 17th October 1986

Audio source and quality: Audience, very good quality. Almost sounds like a lesser-quality soundboard recording. There's very little audience noise.

Kiel Over & Die: St. Louis, USA 1986

Yes, I finally managed to find a perfect-quality bootleg from the Fuel for Life tour! This was originally recorded for a King Biscuit broadcast, so it's one of the few professionally recorded performances from this tour.

Track listing:
  1. Radio intro & interview with Rob Halford, K.K. Downing and Glenn Tipton
  2. Out in the Cold
  3. Locked In
  4. Heading Out to the Highway
  5. Metal Gods
  6. Breaking the Law
  7. Love Bites
  8. Some Heads Are Gonna Roll
  9. The Sentinel
  10. Private Property
  11. Desert Plains
  12. Rock You All Around the World
  13. The Hellion/Electric Eye
  14. Turbo Lover
  15. Freewheel Burning
  16. Victim of Changes
  17. The Green Manalishi
  18. Living After Midnight
  19. You've Got Another Thing Comin'
  20. Hell Bent for Leather
Venue and date: Kiel Auditorium, St. Louis, USA, 23rd May 1986

Audio source and quality: FM broadcast, excellent to superb quality. Very little errors or anything, this is as good as it gets (if you don't count the very occasional DJ chatter).

Special features: Radio interview with the band. Hilarious stage banter by Rob. Perfect-quality 1986 versions of Victim of Changes and The Green Manalishi.

Artwork: Front and back covers, as well as the inlay and the backside of the front cover included. The album was mislabeled as "Keel" and "1985", but I fixed it on every graphic except the backside of the front cover, which I found too hard to fix so I created a new, more generic one instead.

Hot & Crazy Night: Kansas City, USA 1986

This is a great-sounding bootleg from the Fuel for Life tour. It's from Kansas City, and recorded for a King Biscuit broadcast a day earlier than the Kiel Auditorium show also found here. This is rarely found as a bootleg, and so far any other versions I've come across have been incomplete FM recordings with hiss & distortion. However, much like the New Mexico '84 boot, this is a full concert sourced from the original master, so it's easily much better than any previous bootlegs of this show. Thanks to "Jon" for referring me to this.

Track listing:

  1. Interview with the band
  2. Out in the Cold
  3. Locked In
  4. Heading Out to the Highway
  5. Metal Gods
  6. Breaking the Law
  7. Love Bites
  8. Some Heads Are Gonna Roll
  9. The Sentinel
  10. Private Property
  11. Desert Plains
  12. Rock You All Around the World
  13. The Hellion/Electric Eye
  14. Turbo Lover
  15. Freewheel Burning
  16. Victim of Changes
  17. The Green Manalishi
  18. Living After Midnight
  19. You've Got Another Thing Comin'
  20. Hell Bent for Leather
Venue and date: Municipal Auditorium, Kansas City, USA, 22nd May 1986. I've also included a short interview from 10th April 1986 here. In it, the band members talk about the upcoming tour and the Turbo album.

Audio source and quality: FM master, superb to perfect quality. A little "dryer" sound than in the New Mexico bootleg, so this might have been recorded straight off the soundboard. Much better than the Kiel Auditorium show, though.

Special features: During this night, the band seems to have had a couple of technical problems. Firstly, the start of Private Property (the synth-guitar intro) sounds rather, well, interesting. And secondly, Rob's microphone goes off at the start of Hell Bent for Leather, so his singing is barely audible during the first verse.

Artwork: Self-made front and back covers included.

The Tube, Newcastle, UK 1984 (video)

"The Tube" was a British music show that aired on Channel 4 from 1982 to 1987. It included both well-known and smaller acts, serving as both a promotional tool for established acts as well as a launchpad to new acts. Unlike many other music shows of the era, the artists didn't mime to a pre-recorded track, but instead performed 100% live.

This is Judas Priest's performance on the show, promoting the just-released Defenders of the Faith album. At a later time, I've come to know that this is only about half of the show.

Freewheel Burning 12" version

Here's something of a rarity: the 12-inch extended single version of Freewheel Burning found only on the vinyl EPs released in late 1983 before Defenders of the Faith was released. It contains an additional harmonic guitar intro not found on the 7"/album version, and has never been officially released on CD. You can find the 12" for about 10-20 euros on eBay, but if you can't spare that or don't have the equipment with which to listen vinyls, here's a digitalized version of it. MP3 320 kbps.

The First Vengeance: Bethelehem, USA 1982

This bootleg is from the very first concert of the 1982 World Vengeance Tour. It's slightly incomplete, with The Hellion completely missing (Electric Eye cuts in) and Rob's goodbye speech at the end of Hell Bent for Leather cutting out prematurely. But it makes up with having a super rare live performance of Fever, which was played on only a few select dates. I've again retouched the audio so it sounds quite a bit better than before.

Venue and date: Hammersmith Odeon Theatre, London, UK, 21st November 1981

Audio source and quality: Supposedly this is from a FM broadcast, but the quality is extremely good and might as well be from a FM master tape.

Special features: Unlike most live versions of Breaking the Law which have a faster tempo, this has pretty much the same tempo as the studio version.

Artwork: Front and back covers included. Note that this uses the same cover photo as the Chicago bootleg, so if you're going to have both you might want to look for alternative artwork. This bootleg also goes by the names of "Sinners and Saints" and "More Than Sinners...Less Than Saints", so they are good search terms for alternative artwork.

Hot Rockin' Palladium: New York, USA 1981

The World Wide Blitz Tour seems to be a gold mine of quality bootlegs. Here's yet another one, this time from the New York Palladium. The original version of this contains three tracks that are in fact taken straight from Unleashed In the East. I've read that they were part of the original 1981 broadcast, but I've removed them from here (as they are insignificant for the album as a whole). "Scoob" gave me a better version of this with a pristine Tyrant track, but this time I kept the original running order so BTL is back as the 13th track.

Track listing:
  1. Intro/Solar Angels
  2. Heading Out to the Highway
  3. Diamonds and Rust
  4. Hell Bent for Leather
  5. Sinner
  6. Beyond the Realms of Death
  7. Grinder
  8. Desert Plains
  9. Hot Rockin'
  10. You Don't Have to Be Old to Be Wise
  11. Victim of Changes
  12. The Green Manalishi
  13. Breaking the Law
  14. Living After Midnight
  15. Tyrant

Venue and date: The Palladium, New York, USA, 22nd July 1981

Audio quality and source: Perfect quality, taken from a FM master vinyl. The quality is right up there with the official releases.

Artwork: Self-made front and back covers included.

Formats: 320 kbps MP3, lossless FLAC.

Breaking the Law: Chicago, USA 1981

This is an extremely-good quality recording from the 1981 World Wide Blitz tour. It also contains a live performance of Troubleshooter, a track only played on the first half of this tour.

Track listing:

  1. Solar Angels
  2. Heading Out to the Highway
  3. Diamonds and Rust
  4. Troubleshooter
  5. Breaking the Law
  6. Sinner
  7. Beyond the Realms of Death
  8. Grinder
  9. Hot Rockin'
  10. You Don't Have to Be Old to Be Wise
  11. Victim of Changes
  12. The Green Manalishi
  13. Hell Bent for Leather
  14. Living After Midnight

Venue and date: International Amphitheatre, Chicago, USA, 8th May 1981

Audio source and quality: FM broadcast, excellent quality. There's quite a lot of echo which might not sound good to some people.

Special features: Glenn Tipton ranting to the audience during You Don't Have to Be Old to Be Wise. Live version of Troubleshooter.

Artwork: Front and back covers included.

Paris, France 1981

Here's 10 tracks from a French concert performed and broadcast a couple of days later than the Amsterdam gig. The quality isn't as good as in the other '81 FM shows but very good nevertheless. Thanks to "Jon" for referring me to this.

Track listing:
  1. Diamonds and Rust
  2. Grinder
  3. Breaking the Law
  4. Sinner
  5. Beyond the Realms of Death
  6. Troubleshooter
  7. Hot Rockin'
  8. Victim of Changes
  9. Living After Midnight
  10. Tyrant
Venue and date: Le Bataclan, Paris, France, 16th February 1981

Audio source and quality: FM broadcast very good quality. The DJ seems to be a bit of chatty type so most of the stage banter is obscured by him.

Special features: Rob's mic goes off at the start of Hot Rockin' and the whole song is performed pretty much as an instrumental (you can very faintly hear his voice at some points). This issue lasts until about halfway through Victim of Changes.

Artwork: Edited front and back covers included.

Formats: Lossless FLAC and VBR MP3.

Dutch Sinners: Amsterdam, Holland 1981 + 1979

Here's a combination of two FM shows from Amsterdam, Holland, recorded in 1981 and 1979, respectively. The 1981 show was previously included here in conjunction with the Paris show from the same year, but due to a new, longer source it wouldn't fit on a single CD anymore, so instead I've combined it with a short show which I was also given to me at the same time. I then sourced a better-quality version of the 1979 show and then added the missing intro and outro from the lower-quality one. I've cross-faded it to make the transitions sound as smooth as possible.

Credit to both shows goes to "Peter".

Track listing:

  1. Hell Bent for Leather
  2. The Ripper
  3. Diamonds and Rust
  4. Grinder
  5. Sinner
  6. You Don't Have to Be Old to Be Wise
  7. Living After Midnight
  8. Running Wild
  9. Diamonds and Rust
  10. Beyond the Realms of Death

Venue and dates: Jaap Edenhall, Amsterdam, The Netherlands, 14th February 1981 (tracks 1-8) and 12th November 1979 (tracks 9-11)

Audio source and quality: FM broadcast, very good to excellent quality. The 1981 show sounds almost like an official release, although the gain setting has been a bit too high so there's some clipping. The 1979 tracks sound thinner and slightly muffled, but are still very good.

Monsters of Rock, Donington, UK 1980

Alright, here's Judas Priest's performance at the inaugural Monsters of Rock festival in 1980! They were the second headliners, as only Rainbow performed after them. This recording come's from the audience master recording, which is currently the best one available. While the audio quality is not the best possible, the historical value of this show compensates for it!

Track listing:

  1. Hell Bent for Leather
  2. The Ripper
  3. Running Wild
  4. Living After Midnight
  5. Sinner
  6. Beyond the Realms of Death
  7. You Don't Have to Be Old to Be Wise

  10. The Green Manalishi
  11. Tyrant

Venue and date: Monsters of Rock festival, Donington Park, Castle Donington, UK, 16th August 1980

Audio source and quality: Audience, good to very good quality. Sound quality is very good, but there's a lot of crowd noise and a few cuts and tape speed errors.

British Steeler: New York, USA 1980

Another quality bootleg from the British Steel tour. Has fuller sound than the Denver one but also has some distortion because this is not a soundboard recording, but actually a FM one.

Track Listing:

  2. The Ripper
  3. Running Wild
  4. Living After Midnight
  5. Sinner
  6. Beyond the Realms of Death
  7. You Don't Have to Be Old to Be Wise

  11. Genocide
  12. Tyrant
  13. The Green Manalishi

Venue and date: Calderone Hall, New York, USA, 7th July 1980

Audio source and quality: FM broadcast, very good to excellent quality. Some distortion in the first few songs and the usual limitations of a cassette tape, but overall a very good record. Originally broadcast on the New York-based WLIR radio station.

Special features: At the end of Genocide, you can hear Rob shooting with a machine gun a lot.

Denver, USA 1980

This is a popular quality bootleg from the British Steel Tour. The bass is quite loud and there's some mixing errors, but other than that it's an excellent soundboard recording. "Scoob"gave me a better FLAC version of this, which, among other improvements, patches the cut in BTROD.

Track listing:
  1. Hell Bent for Leather
  2. The Ripper
  3. Running Wild
  4. Living After Midnight
  5. Sinner
  6. Beyond the Realms of Death
  7. You Don't Have to Be Old to Be Wise
  8. Grinder
  9. Victim of Changes
  10. Steeler
  11. Genocide
  12. Tyrant
  13. The Green Manalishi

Venue and date: The Rainbow Music Hall, Denver, USA, 25th June 1980

Audio source and quality: Soundboard, excellent quality. Increasing the bass sound has led to the drums sounding quite hollow and some sounds being drowned out. Other mix errors also happen occasionally, such as the background vocals being louder than the lead ones. No distortion or errors though.

Special features: Near the end of Genocide, you can hear Rob shooting with a machine gun (as it was a part of the show back then).

  2. Delivering the Goods
  3. Running Wild
  4. The Ripper
  5. Beyond the Realms of Death
  6. Diamonds and Rust

Take on the World: Seattle, USA 1979

Here's a nice radio bootleg from the Hell Bent for Leather tour. This concert was sponsored and broadcast by the CBS-owned KZOK radio station. There was no admission fee thanks to that. The sound on this CD was originally running too fast
and also had a too high pitch because of that, but I corrected that in Audacity. The track splits were also slightly wrong, which I corrected as well. However, the speed correction caused the show to run slightly longer than the length of one CD, so I had to split the show on two discs. I also updated the back cover to reflect this,
and replaced the erroneus image there (which featured Les Binks, who had already left the band by this point).

Track listing:
  1. Hell Bent for Leather
  2. Delivering the Goods
  3. Running Wild
  4. The Ripper
  5. Beyond the Realms of Death
  6. Diamonds and Rust
  7. White Heat, Red Hot
  8. Sinner
  9. The Green Manalishi
  10. Victim of Changes
  11. Genocide
  12. Starbreaker
  13. Take on the World
  14. Tyrant
Venue and date: Coliseum Arena, Seattle, USA, 17th October 1979

Audio source and quality: FM broadcast, very good quality, fewer errors than in the Palladium '79 bootleg but the sound tends to be hollow, i.e. lacks bass and depth in the sound. Originally broadcast on the Seattle-based KZOK radio station.

Artwork: Front and back covers, as well as the inlay and the backside of the front cover included.

Formats: 320 kbps MP3 & lossless FLAC.

Beyond the Realms of Death, UItE sessions

Here's another rare single b-side. It's Beyond the Realms of Death recorded in the same concerts as Unleashed in the East was, but unlike the other 14 officially released songs (the remastered album + Evil Fantasies on the Single Cuts boxset) it has never been put on CD. This version has only been released thrice: on the bonus EP that came as a bonus with UItE's original issues in the UK, a special 12-track cassette version also released in the UK, and the somewhat rare Rock Forever 12" single released in the Netherlands. Rock Forever promo video, 1978

Here's a great version of the rare 1978 Rock Forever promo video. It comes from a rebroadcast by the German ZDF channel, which also was the original broadcaster back in 1978. There was a small bit missing from the beginning so I patched it with a clip from the earlier Japanese rebroadcast version and cross-faded it in. The quality is as good as a YouTube video can get, and I've made it available for you to download as well. The resolution has been upped as well to make it ready to burn for a DVD.

Brighton, UK 1978 (video)

These are Judas Priest's early promotional videos for the Killing Machine album. They are live perfomances filmed at The Dome, Brighton, England on 31st October 1978, which were afterwards overdubbed with the studio tracks and audience noise. For some reason neither of these have been released officially.

I used two sources for these; the first 1 minute 50 seconds of the Killing Machine video is from a better source (Metal Works VHS), after which it goes somewhat worse in quality. Take on the World is entirely made up of the lower-quality material as there was no better source available.

Track listing:

  1. Killing Machine
  2. Take on the World

BBC Session, London, England 1978

Here's a short but excellent radio show from 1978. Recorded for a John Peel session and broadcast a few days later, this show is among the best quality bootlegs I've heard to date.

Setlist:

  1. White Heat, Red Hot
  2. Victim of Changes
  3. Beyond the Realms of Death
  4. Running Wild
  5. Starbreaker

Venue and date: John Peel Session, BBC Studios, London, England, 23rd October 1978 (broadcast on 28th)

Audio source and quality: FM broadcast, superb quality. Recorded off the air with a reel-to-reel machine instead of a cassette recorder, which allows for far better fidelity. Only a few very minor cracks and a slight bit of hiss, otherwise a perfect recording rivalling many pre-FM masters.

Special features: Likely the first ever live performance of a song from the Killing Machine album (Running Wild). Rob mistakenly introduces Starbreaker as being from the Stained Class album.

This is a nice radio bootleg from the Stained Class tour. It's from Cleveland, Ohio, USA and is actually the first official live recording of the band - tracks 1, 3 and 5 were used as B-sides to various singles in 1978. Beyond the Realms of Death (radio edit)

Here's another rare studio cut for you, this time it's the beautiful power ballad Beyond the Realms of Death. Except this version has been heavily shortened, apparently for radio broadcast purposes: the original almost seven-minute length has been reduced to only two and a half minutes! Makes you wonder why bother broadcasting it at all if one has to cut most of the song away to do so...

This one is from the collection of "Fred E Coyote".

  6. Island of Domination
  7. Rocka Rolla

Venues and dates: Thamside Arena, Reading Festival, Reading, England, 22nd August 1975 (tracks 1-7) and Slough College, London, England, 11th October 1975 (tracks 8-12).

Audio source and quality: Audience/soundboard, good to very good quality. The Slough College tracks sound slightly better (possibly soundboard?). The alternate version of Reading Festival, which comes from a tape instead of the silver CD, sounds a bit better, but unfortunately it has some cuts and tape errors.

Special features: Only existing recordings of Mother Sun (the Slough one is slightly cut short at the end). Long guitar solos in Island of Domination (Downing) and Rocka Rolla (Tipton). Only known recorded live performances of Island of Domination, Rocka Rolla, Dreamer Deceiver and Deceiver. Rocka Rolla (long version)

Here's another rarity for you. It's Rocka Rolla, coming from an early Gull/Decca records UK-only print of the band's similarly-named debut album. So what makes it so special? Well, this one is a bit over four minutes long, as opposed to the just over three minutes you usually come across. In this version the last verse is also played at the beginning of the song, just like in the Reading Festival bootleg also found here. Apparently this is the original album version of the song, while the three-minute version is actually the single edit which has for one reason or another been used in place of this in all subsequent issues of the album (apart from the alternative remix found on "Hero, Hero", of course)

The credit for this goes out to "Fabian" of The X Quorum.

Back then Glenn Tipton wasn't yet in Judas Priest, and the band was touring in support for fellow hard rockers Budgie, not having a recording contract yet. While the Judas Priest show wasn't recorded by anyone (or at least hasn't surfaced yet), many of Budgie's shows back then ended with Budgie calling Judas Priest back on stage to perform "Running from My Soul" for a second time during the same gig, as a special encore. One of these shows was this one at the famous Marquee Club, and it was excellently caught on tape.

Track listing:

  1. Running from My Soul

Venue and date: The Marquee Club, London, UK, 11th February 1974

Audio source and quality: Audience, very good/excellent quality for a 1974 recording. While Judas Priest's part of the song might be a little difficult to distinguish, I'm sure that most people will recognize Rob Halford's vocals starting at around the 5 minute mark, and if nothing else, at least Rob's "thank you" speech at the end.

Special features: Currently the earliest-known live recording with Judas Priest on it. It was at his show where Gull Records' David Howells saw the band and decided to offer them a recording contract.

Artwork: None.

Formats: MP3 VBR, lossless FLAC.

The Flying Hat Band: Complete Works

The Flying Hat Band was the last band where Glenn Tipton played before joining Judas Priest. They were a pretty hard rocking band and eventually landed a record deal with Vertigo Records, but their initial album (which was recorded sometime in 1972 or 1973) was shelved by the company after it was deemed much too similar with labelmates Black Sabbath (some sources claim that the album was "too scary", but I highly doubt that unless the unreleased material is extremely heavy). The band continued touring with a few lineup changes along the way (Tipton being the only member to stay all the way through), but money was beginning to run very low. So eventually when Tipton was offered a place in Judas Priest in April 1974 (Priest were looking for another member as it was suggested by Gull Records, with which they had just signed), he decided to accept the offer considering that it can't be any worse than with TFHB. TFHB dissolved at the same time and the rest is history for Judas Priest.

The first four of these tracks are widely available, and are studio-quality demos from either 1972 or 1973, possibly recorded for the aforementioned album. But the two latter tracks are seen much more rarely. These tracks have no known names so I made up some based on the lyrics. They are of lesser quality than the first four ones, being studio tracks as well but have probably passed through a few cassette generations. Still enjoyable though.
